Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) is under fire again for her ethics -- or lack thereof -- after she filed required disclosures that referred to fiancé Riley Roberts as her "spouse."
Ocasio-Cortez filed the post-travel disclosure forms with the House Ethics Committee after trips to South Korea, Japan, and South America, the latter being a George Soros-funded trip.
Roberts allegedly paid his own expenses on the journeys.
Ocasio-Cortez spokeswoman Lauren Hitt told the Washington Free Beacon that the pair were not “legally married,” saying, “House Ethics has commonly recognized the term spouse to extend to long-term partners.”
Hitt was incorrect in her statement, however. The ethics committee defines "spouse" as someone to whom one is legally married, and Ocasio-Cortez should have marked the box labeled other and then written "fiancé" therein.
She could be prosecuted over the error, which is ironic given her criticism of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas and other Republicans over their supposed ethical lapses.
