Donald Trump Says 'Harmful' Post Was 'Political Speech'

 August 8, 2023

One day after pleading not guilty in a federal court to charges related to attempting to overturn the results of the 2020 election, Donald Trump posted a now very-famous message on social media, saying:

IF YOU GO AFTER ME, I'M COMING AFTER YOU!

Trump's enemies are saying that the point of his post was to intimidate his enemies into silence.

The former president disagrees.

He simply declared his words to constitute "political speech."

The prosecution in his latest federal case feels as though it might be a little bit more serious than that.

"It could have a harmful chilling effect on witnesses or adversely affect the fair administration of justice in this case," they said.

Trump's team didn't agree though. A spokesperson for the former president said that Trump was simply trying to send a message to America's "Republicans In Name Only," also known as RINOs.

"The Truth post cited is the definition of political speech, and was in response to the RINO, China-loving, dishonest special interest groups and super PACs," Trump's team said.
