Donald Trump reveals surveillance tapes from Mar-a-Lago were handed over to prosecutors

 July 31, 2023

Former President Donald Trump revealed in a post on Truth Social that surveillance tapes from his Mar-a-Lago residence were handed over to prosecutors, not deleted like new charges from Special Counsel Jack Smith claim.

Trump emphatically stated, "MAR-A-LAGO SECURITY TAPES WERE NOT DELETED. THEY WERE VOLUNTARILY HANDED OVER TO THE THUGS, HEADED UP BY DERANGED JACK SMITH. WE DID NOT EVEN GO TO COURT TO STOP THEM FROM GETTING THESE TAPES. I NEVER TOLD ANYBODY TO DELETE THEM."

Tuesday's batch of charges came in addition to 37 preexisting charges related to Trump's alleged mishandling of classified documents.

Trump's statement deals a death blow to these new charges and further reinforces that Smith is throwing charges at Trump to distract Americans from the bombshell news about the Biden family's criminal business.

The charges against Trump are meaningless and will no doubt fail, but they have done their job of distracting the American people.

It has become clear in the past few weeks that convicting Trump was never Smith's goal. Once this case is finally resolved, Republicans will want to look into serious reforms that will ensure this situation never happens again.
