Former President Donald Trump issued a statement condemning the fatal beating of 29-year-old Tyre Nichols. Trump's statement joins those of both former President Barack Obama and President Joe Biden in condemning the terrible incident.

Trump said during an interview with The Associated Press on Saturday, "I thought it was terrible. He was in such trouble. He was just being pummeled. Now that should never have happened."

Police bodycam footage of the incident was released on Friday and spawned protests nationwide.

The footage showed Nichols being punched, kicked, pepper sprayed, and tased by five police officers following a traffic stop.

Trump continued by saying, "Look, the tape was perhaps not totally conclusive but, to me, it was pretty conclusive and it was vicious and violent and hard to believe — over a traffic violation."

Nichols died after three days in the hospital, and the five officers who were involved have all been charged with murder.
