Donald Trump dominates in Family Research Council straw poll

 September 18, 2023

Former President Donald Trump dominated the Family Research Council’s Pray Vote Stand summit straw poll taken Saturday beating his nearest opponent by thirty-plus points.

An impressive 63% of straw poll participants indicated that they support the former president, with the next nearest candidate being Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who captured 27% of the straw poll votes.

No other candidate captured more than 10% support from the straw poll.

Former Vice President Mike Pence came in third with 2% support which is nearly as dramatic a gap as the one between Trump and DeSantis.

This straw poll demonstrates that the race is a two-horse race, and one is a clear winner. Trump has had a double-digit lead for months, and no other candidate besides DeSantis has consistent support.

The rest of the field is full of candidates with little to no chance of contending for the nomination. Entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy has grown some organic support but nothing big enough to take on the likes of Trump or DeSantis.
