Donald Trump continues to lead Republican field as Ron DeSantis slides

 August 13, 2023

Former President Donald Trump is leading the Republican field in Iowa, and his main rival -- Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis -- is falling behind badly according to a new J.L. Partners poll conducted for the Daily Mail.

The poll found that Trump has a massive 43% support rate, and his nearest competition is DeSantis, who is miles behind at 17%.

J.L. Partners cofounder James Johnson explained, "Though voters continue to have a positive view of the man himself, support for DeSantis is falling fast and now only six points separate him and Tim Scott for second place."

Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) has been a non-factor in the race until recently, as he has gone from a nobody in the race to just 6% behind DeSantis with 11% of poll respondents supporting his campaign.

Entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy has also grown his support base significantly as he moved from 1% support in April to 5% in this poll.

For the longest time, this race was between Trump and DeSantis. Now it is beginning to look like DeSantis is falling out, and Trump's easy cruise to the nomination looks inevitable.
