DHS pick Kristi Noem vows to stop immigration app 'on Day 1' to handle border

 January 18, 2025

South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem, Donald Trump's pick for Department of Homeland Security secretary, recently vowed to halt the mobile app that allows migrants to register to enter America.

"If confirmed and I have the opportunity to be secretary on Day 1, CBP One will be shut down," Noem said in her confirmation hearing.

America is currently experiencing a crisis at the border, and Noem thinks that eliminating this app could be one of the ways to tackle the issue.

According to the New York Post, "An estimated 800,000 migrants have entered the US legally since the CBP One app was launched by President Biden in January 2023. The free application allows migrants to register themselves for an appointment and arrive at one of the eight crossing checkpoints into the country."

Noem was not shy about her criticism of how Biden's administration handled America's border during his four years, calling the situation a "war zone."

The border isn't the only place that needs work, however.

After the recent (almost successful) assassination attempt against Donald Trump, Noem thinks the Secret Service needs some improvements as well.

"As secretary, I will oversee the Secret Service, an agency that is in serious need of reforms. We all saw the threats to President-elect Trump last year and the consequences of failure now," Noem said. "That should never happen again, and I’ve worked closely with my own gubernatorial protective detail, and I’m familiar with what works and what doesn’t work, and I’ll bring that experience towards strengthening the Secret Service."
