Departures of McCarthy and Santos blamed for failed Mayorkas impeachment vote
The departures of former Republican House Reps. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and George Santos (R-NY) have been blamed for recent GOP failures there, with two key votes failing in as many days.
Without McCarthy and Santos, only three Republican defections were needed to sink a vote to impeach DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
That measure may still pass in the end, since Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA) is returning from cancer treatments next week, and the matter is expected to be brought back up then.
Still, it doesn't take much to lose the support needed to pass a bill in the House.
Not that it matters, though, since the Senate has a Democrat majority and won't pass most of the stuff the House does anyway.
It's gridlock at its finest, just the way the Founding Fathers always wanted.
