Democrat Senator Cardin Will NOT Seek Reelection In 2024

May 2, 2023

"It's time," Ben Cardin said as he closes in on his 80th birthday.

The longtime Maryland Democrat Senator will NOT seek reelection in 2024.

It leaves open a seat that is expected to be among the tightest races in the country in 2024.

Cardin said that he would retire from the Senate until his term ends in January of 2025.

"I enjoy life. There are other things I can do," Ben said. He claimed that after he retired, he would be open to being a professor or a teacher.

Cardin can do what he wants, but when I'm 82-years-old, you can bet that my idea of retirement isn't going to be getting another job.

To be honest, it's about time for fresh blood in Maryland. Both Cardin and Representative Steny Hoyer, a Democrat, started their political careers in the state back in 1967.

That's a lot of time for the world to be passing Cardin's generation by as he still makes new rules for us.

The times they are a changin'... starting with Ben Cardin's retirement.
