Democrat Praises McCarthy After Voting To Oust Him As Speaker

 December 8, 2023

Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy was voted out of his position back on Oct. 3.

Now, McCarthy has announced his plans to retire at the end of 2023.

Democratic Rep. Steny Hoyer had nothing but glowing reviews of McCarthy upon hearing the news.

Hoyer completely failed to acknowledge that he was among those who voted to remove McCarthy as House speaker.

What he said instead has blown the Internet to bits.

“Anyone who has watched one of the many weekly colloquies that he and I participated in over the years knows that we have very different views on policy and often disagree with each other’s decisions. Despite our differences, however, we became friends,” Hoyer said in a recent statement.

The Democrat even went on to acknowledge that, for many years, McCarthy was the right man for the job he held.

“We had our disagreements, but in many instances when the stakes were high for our nation, Kevin did what was right for the country. I wish him well as he sets out on this new path and look forward to working with him in the future," Hoyer said.

The House speaker is now Republican Rep. Mike Johnson.
