Democrat-linked lawyer Marc Elias contesting results of PA Senate race
Though a critical U.S. Senate race has already been called in favor of the Republican contender, a longtime Democrat-linked operative is taking controversial actions to dispute the outcome.
As the New York Post reports, election attorney Marc Elias, who played a role in disseminating the discredited Steele Dossier to harm Donald Trump, is now working to reverse the imminent ascension of Dave McCormick to the upper chamber, contending that the votes may yet exist to return incumbent Democrat Bob Casey to the seat.
Elias seeking recount
While the Associated Press called the race in McCormick's favor on Thursday, with other key outlets soon following suit, Elias is working to force a recount in the pivotal electoral contest.
Adding to the tension is the fact that Casey himself has refused to concede the race, going so far as to send out fundraising communications in support of an effort to ensure that “every last vote in this PA Senate race is counted.”
As of now, however, Casey does not have sufficient votes to trigger an automatic recount, but that has not deterred Elias from attempting to force the issue.
Writing on X over the weekend, Elias said, Election Day has past [sic], but the fight for democracy continues,” and he went on to discuss his work in Pennsylvania.
Observers have not failed to notice the double standard that seems to be in play, given that in the wake of the 2020 election, Elias was among the loudest voices condemning any effort by Donald Trump to contest or recount votes in critical swing states, suggesting that such actions were “dangerous for democracy.”
Schumer joins in
It is not just Elias who seems to be in denial about Casey's fate, with current Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) announcing on Sunday that he would not invite McCormick to the Senate's orientation day, as the Washington Examiner noted.
A spokesperson for the New York lawmaker said, “With over 100,000 ballots left to be counted in Pennsylvania, the race has not been decided.”
Schumer's representative went on, “As is custom, we will invite the winner once the votes are counted.”
Republicans cry foul
Backlash from Republicans over Elias' conduct and Schumer's act of disrespect was swift and sure, with Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) declaring, “Senator-elect Dave McCormick won. Chuck Schumer's shameful, election-denying decision to block McCormick from Senate orientation shows Schumer's true character.”
The hypocrisy from the left was not lost on Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), who reminded Americans of the criticism leveled at anyone who questioned the validity of the 2020 election results.
“Schumer is not allowing [McCormick] to participate in Senate orientation this week because Casey refuses to concede the race. What happened to all the demands that our leaders accept the outcome of the elections?”
Whether -- or when -- Democrats will acknowledge what even the Associated Press has deemed the mathematical impossibility of a legitimate Casey win and relinquish the seat to McCormick is something that remains to be seen, but the utter lack of intellectual consistency on the left has been laid bare for all to observe.
