Crime Wave: Top Democrats Abandon Criminal Justice Reform

 March 6, 2023

Voters are making it clear that they do not like the Democrats' efforts to loosen laws in the name of racial justice.

Democrats are now abandoning their liberal criminal justice reform efforts if they wish to keep voters.

The latest sign of this shift came last week when President Biden said he will not oppose an effort in Congress to undo a liberal crime law recently enacted by the City Council in Washington, D.C.

"But evidence of the change in attitude within the party has become increasingly apparent, with a spike in crime over the past two years effectively smothering Democrats' efforts to overhaul law enforcement and criminal justice," reports the Washington Examiner.

"The president's decision to sign the congressional bill to override the D.C. crime law is certainly a signal that attempts to reduce sentences for violent offenders is a nonstarter even among Democrats," said Brad Bannon, a Democratic strategist.

"But the Democratic desire to prevent police murders of victims like Tyre Nichols, George Floyd, and Tamir Rice is very much alive," Bannon continued. "This effort will intensify after the next tragic instance of police violence."

"Biden said he would sign a bill overriding the D.C. City Council’s crime law after 173 House Democrats had already voted against it weeks earlier," reported the Examiner.
