'Confused' Biden sparks online speculation after appearance at WH event

 March 22, 2024

With vast swaths of the American electorate already harboring serious doubts about President Joe Biden's age and cognitive status, a scene that unfolded recently at the White House certainly did not help matters for the Democrats ahead of the 2024 election.

As Newsweek reports, during what appeared to be a reception held in honor of Women's History Month, President Biden sparked a host of adverse online reactions from those who claimed he appeared “confused” and disoriented on stage, requiring the assistance of the first lady to exit the stage.

Footage of the event soon began making the rounds, particularly via conservative social media accounts, spurring additional skepticism about Biden's ability to serve for another four years.

In the clip at issue, Biden is first seen on the event stage speaking to a nearby woman, and it was then that things took what many believe was an odd turn.

First lady Jill Biden swooped in to say something directly to the president, and she pointed to her right in what appeared to be some sort of direction to her husband.

After seeming to listen to what his wife had to say, the president proceeded to walk in the opposite direction, leaving the stage altogether.

Though little context of what actually occurred was available, that did not stop online commentators from entering the fray to make their voices heard.

Some suggested that Biden failed to follow the “instructions” his wife customarily provides in order to keep him from committing on-stage gaffes.

The X account of the research arm of the Republican National Committee declared, “A confused Biden wanders off the stage after instructions from Jill, Ed.D.”

An account that goes by the name “Proud Elephant” concurred but added “highly” as a descriptor for the word “confused.”

Writer John LeFevre opined, “You couldn 't rely on Joe Biden to go to the store for milk and eggs, and yet, some people think he can lead our country for 4 more years.”

The episode was, to many, reminiscent of an event earlier this year in which Biden was led off the stage at the conclusion of Jan. 6 commemorative remarks made near Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, as the New York Post reported at the time.

That incident prompted Jake Schneider of RNC Reearch to write in, “She's walking him off the stage like a child.”

Precisely how the president will be able to navigate the innumerable stage appearances that will certainly be expected of him as the 2024 campaign continues to heat up really is anyone's guess.
