Colombia Federation president, son arrested at Copa America final
Considering that Colombia's national squad was playing in the final of the biggest soccer tournament in the Eastern Hemisphere, you would have hoped that the president of Colombia's Football Federation would have been able to enjoy the match without incident.
Things didn't play out that way.
The entire final was one big disaster, with unticketed fans storming the gates and forcing their way into the stadium, resulting in massive delays and security issues for those who did have the appropriate tickets for entry.
As a result, the huge game between Argentina and Colombia was delayed, but eventually did proceed as normal.
At least until the end of the match, when police had to make more arrests.
This time, the people being arrested were "Colombia Football Federation president Ramón Jesurún and his son, Ramón Jamil Jesurún, [who] are facing battery charges on a specified official or employee after being arrested by Miami-Dade police at Hard Rock Stadium following the 2024 Copa América final."
According to ESPN, "The two men were booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center just after 4:10 a.m. Monday, according to jail records. The father, 71, and son, 43, are accused of fighting multiple security guards at one of the stadium's tunnels used for the media as they tried to gain access to the field, according to the arrest report."
