Christie thinks Republicans shouldn't have heckled Biden at SOTU

Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie (R) told ABC News' George Stephanopoulos that Republican House members made a "big mistake" in heckling President Joe Biden during the State of the Union speech last week.

Christie said, “Big mistake. Look, you don’t want to rise to the bait, and they did. A number of them did. It was a big mistake.”

He said that yelling at Biden was not a good idea, and that Republicans should have just laughed at him instead.

Christie added, “The yelling and the screaming stuff, look, I think that’s always bad. It doesn’t get you anywhere, and it gave Joe Biden an opportunity to engage them back in a way that was spontaneous, that I think was probably the best part of his entire speech.”

If Christie spent as much time engaging conservatives as he does trying to agree with Democrats, he might actually be a relevant figure in the Republican party right now.

He's always been a moderate, some would say RINO, but has gotten even more so since splitting with former President Donald Trump over the Jan. 6 Capitol breach.
