Microsoft is facing an investigation from the Federal Trade Commission over its cybersecurity protocols following a massive cyberattack earlier this year by hackers associated with the Chinese Communist Party.
The attack exposed the email accounts of Microsoft customers, but the tech giant didn't make that news public until recently, prompting many to question the company's commitment to defending its customers.
FTC Chair Lina Khan stated, "The Commission will ‘shift resources to order compliance and enforcement, especially against the largest respondents.'"
Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR) demanded further action saying, "Microsoft’s security failures led to the Chinese government hacking into the emails of senior U.S. government officials."
The hacking of government officials' email accounts would explain the involvement of the Chinese government.
Of course, the Biden administration has been quiet on this attack on U.S. sovereignty. More must be done to counter China's blatant cyberattacks on the United States.
