Case against woman in death of adopted son dismissed...for now

 March 27, 2024

The case against a women accused of playing a role in the death of her adopted son in the Phoenix suburb of Buckeye will not be moving forward at this time.

Authorities cited a lack of evidence as the reason the case stalled out.

That doesn't mean police aren't willing to reopen the investigation if new evidence emerges.

"At this time, there was insufficient evidence to move forward with the trial against the defendant," said a spokeswoman for the county attorney’s office, Karla Navarrete. "If new evidence is discovered and brought by law enforcement in the future, the office is open to reexamining the case."

According to police, 10-year-old Jesse Wilson went missing in July 2016, and the boy's remains weren't found until two years later. He was discovered on the side of the road about 6 miles from his home.

Crystal Wilson, the boy's adopted mother, claimed to police that "her son had run away after she put him to bed for the night."

Do you think charges might eventually be filed? For now, we'll have to wait and see.
