California survey finds Ron DeSantis leading Donald Trump in hypothetical 2024 contest

 February 26, 2023

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) stunned the nation after a University of California Berkeley’s Institute of Governmental Studies survey found that he is leading former President Donald Trump in a hypothetical 2024 head-to-head race.

The survey found that DeSantis is leading Trump by a significant margin in a hypothetical California 2024 primary.

The poll found that 50% of voters preferred DeSantis compared to 33% that chose the former president. That margin is shockingly large and speaks volumes about the potential DeSantis has as a presidential candidate.

Of course, these polls mean nothing should DeSantis choose not to run in 2024. If he is planning on running, a decision isn't expected for a couple of months.

DeSantis told Fox News on Monday, "We’re going to sell some books, we’re going to spread the message of Florida, and then on March 8 I have our legislative session that’s kicking off. You ain’t seen nothing yet. This is going to be the most productive legislative session we have had across the board and I think people are going to be really excited. So those are what we’re going to be doing over these next few months as we get beyond that, then we can decide from there.”

If DeSantis decides to run against Trump, he will be the strongest contender for the nomination by a mile.
