Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) has become persona non grata in her state Republican Party, and now she is bracing for a loss in the upcoming primary.
Not only is Cheney, once the third most powerful Republican in the House, likely to lose her seat, but if she does, she will be the eighth House member who voted to impeach former President Donald Trump to not be re-elected after the midterms.
For four of them, retirement is the reason they will be out of power, but the rest have been or are expected to be voted out in the primary, some like Cheney by Trump-backed candidates.
Cheney is going down to spectacular defeat, by all accounts--she is 57 points behind her opponent according to polls.
Republicans fault her for being too closely allied with Democrats, such as her membership on the January 6 committee. She has also had a backlash for being anti-Trump.
