Federal prosecutors have reportedly recommended against charging Representative Matt Gaetz (R-FL) over allegations that he participated in sex trafficking.
Gaetz has been the subject of a two-year investigation that many Republicans alleged was a political witchhunt.
Gaetz was accused of paying to have sex with a 17-year-old girl several years ago. However, the accusations were brought by two witnesses that seem to be unreliable, which is why prosecutors are mulling dropping the charges.
The case seemed doomed when Joel Greenberg, a friend of Gaetz's and a former tax collector, was arrested and pleaded guilty to sex trafficking of a minor.
Greenberg was one of the primary witnesses against Gaetz and his guilty plea ended Democrats' hopes that maybe they could take Gaetz down.
Gaetz has been an outspoken defender of former President Donald Trump, and his firebrand conservatism has earned him the ire of the left. Thankfully it seems their plan to take him down has failed.
