A 64-year-old Florida woman has been accused of storing her mother's dead body in a freezer to collect disability benefits.
Police found 93-year-old Marie Hoskins in a chest freezer, and after questioning her daughter, Michele Hoskins, she admitted to finding her mother dead in her bedroom.
Instead of reporting the death, Michele Hoskins bought the chest freezer and stored the body in order to continue to collect her mother's welfare benefits.
Police found a "heavily soiled bed mattress was located concealed in thick brush and covered by cut palm tree branches in the backyard," which prompted further investigation that led to the discovery of the body.
The horrifying situation landed Michele Hoskins in jail, where she is being held on a $10,000 bond. She stands accused of failing to report a death and tampering with evidence.
While foul play seemed plausible, further investigation determined that Marie Hoskins died of natural causes.
