President Joe Biden, who claims to be a practicing Catholic, misstated Catholic doctrine on abortion on Thursday during a fundraiser in which he talked about the abortion bill Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) introduced in the Senate.
Biden claimed that Graham's bill banned all abortions after 15 weeks and didn't allow exceptions for rape and incest. This is false; the bill does allow exceptions.
He also claimed that the Catholic church's doctrine did allow those exceptions. “My generic point — and I happen to be a practicing Roman Catholic — my church doesn’t even make that argument now,” Biden said.
But Biden is wrong. The Catechism of the Catholic Church says “human life must be respected and protected absolutely from the moment of conception” even in cases of rape and incest.
He doesn't believe his church's doctrine about abortion, which is probably why he doesn't know what it is.
