World Wrestling Entertainment CEO Vince McMahon shocked America by announcing his retirement amidst sexual misconduct allegations.
Just weeks ago, it was reported that McMahon had paid millions to four different women over 16 years to cover up claims of sexual misconduct and infidelity.
McMahon has been the face of the WWE since he took over in 1982, and at 77 years old, his retirement made sense.
McMahon's official statement on Twitter seemed to reinforce the notion that age was the deciding factor. In a post on Friday, McMahon said, "As I approach 77 years old, I feel it's time for me to retire as Chairman and CEO of WWE."
But it seems that the allegations of sexual misconduct are the driving force behind McMahon's retirement rather than his advanced age.
McMahon may be going out on rather dubious terms, but there is no denying that he built an empire.
