Much like the decades-long process of placing conservatives in the judiciary until they began to deliver important decisions in line with the Constitution, Republicans now need to do the same thing in higher educational institutions if they want to bring them back to reasonable neutrality.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) is leading the way.
When the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges tried to veto DeSantis's recommendation for a new Florida State University president by threatening to withhold accreditation, DeSantis changed the rules to allow different sources of accreditation.
The Biden administration then changed the rules at a federal level to thwart DeSantis, and the issue now stands at a deadlock.
With 61% of the public saying higher education is heading in the wrong direction, DeSantis will hopefully continue the fight until he wins.
