Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) has called for the Espionage Act to be repealed after it was used as justification to raid former President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida.
A tweet from Senator Paul on Saturday stated, "The espionage act was abused from the beginning to jail dissenters of WWI. It is long past time to repeal this egregious affront to the 1st Amendment. Repeal the Espionage Act – The Future of Freedom Foundation."
The FBI raided Donald Trump's residence, citing a potential Espionage Act violation and possible obstruction of justice as the reasoning.
Of course, Senator Paul found the explanation outrageous as, essentially, the FBI is conducting a raid on the home of a former President without strong probable cause.
The warrant was essentially rubber-stamped by a Judge who espoused anti-Trump sentiments.
Senator Paul may get his wish if Republicans take control of Congress. The Espionage Act could go the way of the dinosaurs if the predicted red wave hits in November.
