A human smuggler got 13 years in prison for shooting at a Border Patrol Agent while attempting to flee from a checkpoint.
Alejandro Nathaniel Rodriguez Stalter pleaded guilty to the charge of assaulting a federal officer and another charge of Discharge of a Firearm During a Crime of Violence.
The incident happened when Border Patrol agents went to inspect a Dodge Charger and then had to pursue it when it tried to get away.
Stalter was shot in response but survived.
Migrants said they paid Stalter $11,000 to smuggle them into the country.
