Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro’s Liberal Party (PL) has filed a formal request to question the integrity of the recent election, which Bolsonaro lost by less than two percentage points to corrupt communist Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
The party alleges that older voting machines from before 2020 malfunctioned and didn't display document individual identification numbers in their internal logs.
Software inconsistencies were also allegedly found in the older voting machines.
The party asked authorities to “apply the legal consequences it deems necessary” without asking for a specific remedy such as redoing the election avoiding the use of the older machines.
The machines with irregularities made up 59% of all the machines used in the election, or about 280,000 machines.
