Body of Missing Young Woman Found In NH Mountains

November 25, 2022

She's been found.

Emily Sotelo would have celebrated her 20th birthday on Nov. 23. Instead, she has tragically died.

The college student recently went for a weekend hike in New Hampshire's White Mountains the weekend before Thanksgiving.

She was never seen alive again.

Sotelo's mother dropped her off to complete a solo hike near a campground at Franconia Notch just before dawn on the morning of Nov. 20.

When she didn't return by late afternoon, her mom contacted authorities.

Before long, more than a dozen government employees were involved in the search.

Not long after, based on the fact that Emily's belongings were found, the mission title was changed from a rescue mission to a recovery mission.

On Wednesday, those morbid suspicions came true.

Emily apparently died after not being dressed appropriately for the weather.

"Weather conditions by Sunday evening were single digit temperatures, 40 to 60 mile per hour winds, blowing snow, and she was not dressed accordingly for those temperatures," Fish and Game Major David Walsh said. "Those are extreme conditions, and then she ended up off trail."
