Bill Maher blasts 'real corruption' surrounding Hunter Biden, notes accompanying media silence

 September 9, 2023

Often known for a refreshing degree of open-mindedness for someone who still considers himself a liberal, comedian and HBO host Bill Maher has expressed his belief that the scandal involving first son Hunter Biden “stinks to the high heavens” and that the mainstream media has not doing its job in covering it, as Breitbart reports.

Maher's comments on the situation came during an appearance on MSNBC's The Beat, and the well-known Democrat-leaning personality did not hold back on the media's startling lack of concern over what he sees as “real corruption” within President Joe Biden's family.

Remarking on the dichotomy he says exists between the way allegations against former President Donald Trump tend to be covered and the manner in which Biden family concerns are treated, Maher's take was filled with incredulity.

“I don't understand how they can equate this equivalency between Trump and Biden,” Maher began.

The longtime Real Time host went on, saying, “Do I love everything about Biden? No. But I just don't understand how they can look at what Trump did – now, does the Hunter Biden scandal stink? It really does. It stinks to the high heavens. That's real corruption there, that a lot of the left-wing media will not cover.”

Even so, Maher continued, “But it's nothing like what Trump did. There's just no equivalency to be – you can say, whataboutism for anything, but...you just can't tell unlike things apart if you see that the same way.”

Notwithstanding his belief that Trump's offenses outweigh all others on the table, Maher conceded, “But they also shouldn't cover up what – I mean, if Don Jr. had done the things that Hunter Biden did, it would be every day.”

“If they found cocaine in the White House, whose could it be? Who does cocaine around here? We can't figure it out,” Maher joked, referencing the recent discovery of illicit drugs at the people's house and the Secret Service's claim that agents were unable to pinpoint the culprit.

Despite Maher's apparent appreciation of the glaring double standard that plagues journalistic coverage of the current and previous first families, his media appearances in recent days have been full of contempt for the current Republican primary frontrunner and – to a somewhat lesser extent – the current commander in chief, as the New York Post explains.

During a lively exchange on Joe Rogan's popular podcast, the show's host stated, “My biggest issue is [Biden] lies a lot,” to which Maher replied, “Well, certainly not more than Trump.”

Rogan insisted, however, “They both lie. I don't think comparing [Biden] to Trump does anybody any good,” to which Maher retorted, “They're running against each other, so it's necessary.”

Though both men seemed to agree that Biden is suffering from a marked cognitive decline, Maher noted, “We're living in a world where 'perfect' is not on the menu. These are the choices.”

Trump, in Maher's estimation, is a “criminal” who is also “crazy” and “stupid,” bearing what he called all the signs of “malignant narcissism.”

While it is good to see someone with a sizable left-leaning audience at least acknowledge the body of evidence that has already emerged implicating the Bidens in extremely unethical conduct, Maher's apparent willingness to overlook the situation in large part due to his contempt for Trump's continued presence on the political stage is disappointing, to say the least.
