Biden's 'ABHORRENT' early departure from Medal of Honor Ceremony blamed on COVID exposure

September 7, 2023

President Joe Biden has been facing backlash after he left a Medal of Honor ceremony before the closing prayer, but White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre quickly found a way to explain it away: it's all COVID's fault.

Conservative influencer Graham Allen tweeted, "Biden just DITCHED the closing prayer of the Medal of Honor ceremony… Absolutely ABHORRENT."

But Jean-Pierre said the abrupt exit was planned and that it was done that way because of Biden's exposure to COVID-19 through his wife Jill, who was recently infected with the virus.

“He left when there was a pause in the program in order to minimize his close contact with attendees who are who are about to participate in a reception,” Jean-Pierre said. “And as you all reported that, noticed that he left when there was a pause in the program because, again, he wanted to minimize certainly his impact on folks who were there.”

Biden didn't follow protocols by wearing a mask during the ceremony, and Jean-Pierre said it was to "honor" retired U.S. Army Captain Larry Taylor, 81, who received the award.

“The president took off his mask, as I said he would, to deliver incredibly powerful remarks about this captain, Capt. Taylor, and what he did in service to our nation. And he wanted to honor the captain,” she said at the briefing.
