Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) said Sunday that President Joe Biden was "scaremongering" about the national debt ceiling and that Biden is "willing to tank the economy" rather than work out a deal with House Republicans.

"He could take default off the table. Joe Biden doesn't want to take default off the table. Why? Because he wants to scaremonger. He wants to scare people into saying, 'Look at this bad thing that I, Joe Biden, am threatening is going to happen,'" Cruz said.

Biden said on Sunday morning that he could use the 14th Amendment to unilaterally raise the debt ceiling, but legal experts including Cruz have said that reasoning is dubious.

"Biden's position on the 14th Amendment is legally frivolous," Cruz said. "By the way, someone else who agreed with that was Barack Obama. The left tried to convince Obama to do this, and Obama said, 'No, you can't do this under the Constitution.'"

Biden did admit in his comments Sunday that lengthy legal proceedings would probably make any action he takes "moot" because the debt would go into default before a decision could be made.

Biden is now claiming that "MAGA Republicans" want to crash the economy and blame him ahead of his re-election. "I've done my part," Biden said, even though he hasn't, by a long shot.
