Less than a year ago, President Joe Biden warned that sending tanks to Ukraine would be "World War III," but now he is sending them anyway.
“The idea that we’re going to send in offensive equipment and have planes and tanks and trains going in with American pilots and American crews — just understand, don’t kid yourself, no matter what y’all say, that’s called World War III,” Biden said in an address to House Democrats in March.
But last week, Biden decided to send 31 Abrams tanks anyway -- although he is not sending any U.S. drivers for them, so maybe he thinks he's okay.
Republicans seem to think he was right the first time.
"Deploying offensive weapons against a nuclear power is a terrible idea,” Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) wrote when he heard about Biden's plan.
There have also been calls for any decisions like this to get congressional approval, which Biden has bypassed in this and other instances.
