Biden Admin Backs Step Toward Banning Foreign Technology

TikTok isn't the only reason for this, but it could be the most swiftly impacted.

President Joe Biden's administration is advocating for the swift passage of bipartisan legislation that would help "ban or prohibit" foreign technology. Of course, TikTok is currently toward the top of that list.

Biden's National Security Advisor, Jake Sullivan, made the announcement:

We applaud the bipartisan group of senators. We look forward to continue working with both Democrats and Republicans on this bill and urge Congress to act quickly to send it to the president’s desk.

The legislation was introduced on Tuesday by South Dakota Republican Senator John Thune and Virginia Democrat Mark Warner, the Senate Intelligence Committee Chair.

"They are taking data from Americans, not keeping it safe, but what worries me more with TikTok is that this could be a propaganda tool. The kind of videos you see would promote ideological issues," Warner said. "If you look at what TikTok shows to the Chinese kids, which is all about science and engineering, versus what our kids see, there’s a radical difference."
