Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) said Monday on X that he plans to introduce legislation that fulfills one of President-elect Donald Trump's campaign promises and almost daring Trump to support it.

During the campaign, Trump said he would temporarily cap credit card interest at 10% to help Americans "catch up" on their payments with recent increases in inflation.

The average credit card interest rate is 24.43% amid rising inflation that has led to increases in interest rates.

"During the recent campaign Donald Trump proposed a 10% cap on credit card interest rates. Great idea. Let’s see if he supports the legislation that I will introduce to do just that," Sanders wrote on X.

Republicans generally oppose caps on credit card interest rates because it usually leads to limits in credit availability and hurts those who need credit the most.

Trump transition team spokesperson Karoline Leavitt told Fox News Digital in a statement, "The American people re-elected President Trump by a resounding margin giving him a mandate to implement the promises he made on the campaign trail. He will deliver."
