Barack Obama doesn't believe Harris can beat Trump in November: Report
With President Joe Biden officially out of the 2024 presidential race, the Democratic Party moved suspiciously quickly to crown Vice President Kamala Harris as the obvious Democratic nominee.
And while Harris, who was so unpopular in the 2020 race that she was forced out before the first primary, has managed to rack up a long list of endorsements, she's missing a few key nods that have many asking questions.
According to the New York Post, the Democratic Party's most influential figure, former President Barack Obama, has not yet endorsed Harris.
There may be good reason for that, according to an exclusive Post report. According to sources close to the Biden family, Obama doesn't believe Harris can beat former President Donald Trump in November, which explains why he hasn't yet offered his blessing.
While hordes of Democrat operatives and politicians have clearly followed the DNC's marching orders in getting behind Harris, Obama seems to be unafraid of expressing the reality of the situation, in that Harris, who often polls worse than Biden, doesn't really stand a chance at besting Trump in November.
"Obama’s very upset because he knows she can’t win," the Biden family source reportedly told the NY Post.
The source added, "Obama knows she’s just incompetent — the border czar who never visited the border, saying that all migrants should have health insurance. She cannot navigate the landmines that are ahead of her."
They also noted that not unlike Biden, Harris' downfall could be her first debate with Trump. She's not great at it, and the source believes she will ultimately shoot herself in the foot that night.
"Wait until the debate … She can’t debate. She’s going to put her foot in her mouth about Israel, Palestine, Ukraine. She’s going to say something really stupid," the source reportedly said.
Previous reports indicated that the upper tier of the Democratic Party did not want Biden to endorse Harris right away, but that's exactly what happened. Obama was reportedly shocked at the quick endorsement, which reportedly wasn't part of the plan.
The NY Post noted:
According to the source, Obama’s hope was to get Biden out of the way, and an op-ed written by George Clooney in the New York Times asking him to step aside was a part of that plan.
However, the higher-ups in the Democratic Party didn’t count on Biden endorsing Harris right away and “Obama was shocked” when the president endorsed her, according to the insider.
Many believe the party will ultimately do whatever it takes to anoint Harris to the top of the Democratic ticket, but others believe her sudden popularity could be temporary, especially if someone who's actually exciting joins the race.
With virtually no accomplishments under her belt and no real policy expertise to speak of, Harris seems like a very poor choice for the Dems to run.
Only time will tell if the torch is passed to her or someone else.
