As Biden readies for State of the Union, new poll states that majority don't think he should run again

February 7, 2023

A Rassmussen poll released on the eve of President Joe Biden's State of the Union address showed that 56% of voters thought Biden should not run for a second term in 2024.

Only 32% said Biden should run for president again, amid widespread dissatisfaction with the economy, border security, and other issues.

Broken down by party, 53% of Democrats said Biden should run again; only 17% of Republicans and 26% of Democrats agreed.

Biden has not said he will run for a second term, but most think he is preparing to do so. He is already the oldest president the country has ever had and will be 86 years old by the time a second term would end in 2028.

If Biden does run, only 39% said Kamala Harris should still be on the ticket; 48% said she should not be on the ticket.

Former President Donald Trump now leads Biden in a Washington Post poll, but the 48%-45% number is within the margin of error.
