Appeals court denies motion to dismiss Trump lawsuit against Pulitzer Prize board members
A Florida appeals court ruled on Friday against a request by board members of the Pulitzer Prize committee to dismiss a defamation lawsuit filed against them in 2022 by President Donald Trump.
Trump said the board members revived debunked news coverage accusing him of colluding with Russia during his presidential campaign by awarding Pulitzer Prizes to the New York Times and Washington Post over their coverage of the false collusion accusations.
The appeals court upheld a lower court ruling stating that the state court could pursue out-of-state defendants and that there was a basis for the suit if Trump could prove the board's actions damaged his reputation and the public's perception of him.
"Today’s ruling is an unequivocal victory for President Trump in his pursuit of justice against the Pulitzer Prize board members for their dishonest and defamatory conduct. President Trump is committed to holding those who traffic in fake news, lies and smears to account and he looks forward to seeing his powerful cases through to a just conclusion," Trump attorney Quincy Bird said.
The suit is one of several that Trump filed against media outlets for defamation and election interference, and all of the requests for dismissal have so far been denied.
What has been done to Trump is a travesty, and it's good that he's going after the mainstream media establishment in all its forms for the bias it displayed, not to mention outright lies it reported as fact. Hopefully, he gets his pound of flesh, not for revenge's sake but to teach them a lesson and bludgeon them back to some level of objectivity, if that's even possible.
