Antony Blinken addresses Afghanistan withdrawal that left 13 US troops dead

 December 12, 2024

Joe Biden's administration has always tried to ignore the fact that their premature evacuation in Afghanistan directly caused the death of 13 American troops in 2021.

Over three years later, Antony Blinken finally seemed to apologize to those 13 servicemembers and their families while testifying before the House Foreign Affairs Committee.

"I think today, especially of the 13 heroes that we lost at Abbey Gate. And I deeply regret we did not do more and could not do more to protect them. And to those families who are here with us today, you’re in my thoughts and my prayers."

While Blinken tried to make us believe he was sorry, he said Biden's decision that got them all killed was the "right one."

"Any attempt to understand, learn from the US withdrawal from Afghanistan has to be put in the proper context of what’s preceded it," Blinken said.

"By January 2021, the Taliban was in the strongest military position it had been since 9/11 [and] we had the smallest number of US forces in Afghanistan since 2001," Blinken added. "All of us, including myself, wrestled with what we could have done differently during that period and over the preceding two decades."

Joe Biden and his administration caused the death of thirteen American servicemen. The fact that Blinken even addressed their deaths at all is a step in the right direction for holding those at fault accountable.

May those thirteen Americans rest in peace.
