Judges taking aim against Trump's executive orders

 February 13, 2025

According to JD Vance, judges in America don't have the power to cancel orders made by the White House.

Still, on multiple occasions, judges in the federal system have tried to block the following actions taken by Donald J. Trump:

Federal Funding Pause -- Trump's administration pushed to have FEMA money blocked from being sent to New York City to house migrants, but a judge appointed by former President Barack Obama, John McConnell in Rhode Island, said that the freeze of federal funds was "likely unconstitutional."

DOGE Treasury Department Access -- Judge Jeannette A. Vargas, who was appointed by Joe Biden, banned Elon Musk and his DOGE team from accessing Treasury Department records.

"Fork in the Road Directive" -- The White House recently sent out a memo to 2 million federal workers offering to keep paying them until Sept. 30, 2025, if they resigned immediately. Despite 75,000 workers taking the offer, Boston-based U.S. District Judge George O’Toole Jr. put a hold on Trump's deferred resignation program, though he later reinstated it.

Birthright Citizenship -- President Trump has been seeking to end birthright citizenship for people whose parents were not legally present in America at the time of their birth. Seattle-based U.S. District Judge John C. Coughenour, nominated by former President Ronald Reagan, issued a block of Trump's order.

It's clear that Donald Trump is determined to "drain the swamp," just like he promised. Unfortunately, many judges in America are terrified of the idea of government employees being knocked off their perch.
