Three Women Go Missing After Traveling To Mexico

March 13, 2023

As border issues continue to arise, and drug cartels are a major concern for Americans entering Mexico, two Texas sisters and their friend have gone missing in Mexico.

The trio crossed the Mexican border last month to sell clothes at a flea market.

"The fate of the three women, who haven’t been heard from in about two weeks, remains a mystery and has garnered relatively little publicity," reports the Mirror.

Authorities have said they are aware that two sisters from Peñitas, a small border city in Texas near McAllen, and their friend have gone missing.

Peñitas Police Chief Roel Bermea said the families of the three women have been in touch with Mexican authorities.

The FBI is investigating their sudden disappearance.

"Beyond that, officials in the U.S. and Mexico haven’t said much about their pursuit of Maritza Trinidad Perez Rios, 47; Marina Perez Rios, 48; and their friend, Dora Alicia Cervantes Saenz, 53," reports the Mirror.

The news of this disappearance comes after the case of four U.S. citizens that were abducted by drug cartels in Matamoros, Mexico recently gained massive publicity.

"The four were travelling Friday in a white minivan with North Carolina license plates. They came under fire shortly after entering the city of Matamoros from Brownsville, at the southernmost tip of Texas near the Gulf coast," the FBI said in a statement Sunday.

"All four Americans were placed in a vehicle and taken from the scene by armed men," the FBI added. "The bureau is offering a $50,000 reward for the victims' return and the arrest of the kidnappers."
