Actress Christina Applegate, an A-lister back in the prime of her acting career, has suffered immensely since being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.

According to the Daily Mail, Applegate recently opened up about the "hell" she experiences as a result of the debilitating disease and said her appearance last month at the Emmy Awards was challenging.

"I actually kind of blacked out," she told Robin Roberts on "Good Morning America."

"People said, 'oh you were so funny', and I'm like, 'I don't even know what I said.' I don't know what I was doing, I got so freaked out that I didn't even know what was happening anymore."

Applegate was tasked with presenting the Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series award, which she said "freaked" her out.

"I mean, yes, yes. I live kind of in hell... I'm not out a lot so this is like a little difficult just for my system, but yeah of course the support is wonderful and I'm really grateful," she said after being asked if she appreciated the love she received from the audience.

The Mail noted:

The Married... with Children actress looked stunning when she took to the stage at at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles earlier this year wearing a floor-length burgundy velvet Christian Siriano dress and using a cane to help her walk.

Applegate reportedly received a standing ovation from the Emmy audience, even cracking a joke at one point. "You're totally shaming with disability by standing up, it's fine!" she told the audience, generating laughter.

The actress wasn't diagnosed with the disease until she was 40, which came as a major life adjustment compared to those diagnosed at younger age.

The situation is so bad for Applegate that last year she indicated that she might not ever act again as a result.

She opened up about the painful realities of MS in a recent Vanity Fair interview.

"This is a progressive disease. I don't know if I'm going to get worse. With the disease of MS, it's never a good day. You just have little sh***y days," she said.

Applegate received an outpouring of support across social media, with many of her former colleagues cheering her on.
