Actor David Soul, best known for role in 'Starsky & Hutch,' dead at 80

Actor David Soul, best known for his role as one-half of the buddy cop duo in Starsky & Hutch, passed away on Thursday at 80 years old.

According to a statement provided by his wife, Helen Snell, Soul passed away on Thursday "after a valiant battle for life in the loving company of family."

Snell's statement read, "He shared many extraordinary gifts in the world as actor, singer, storyteller, creative artist and dear friend. His smile, laughter and passion for life will be remembered by the many whose lives he has touched."

Soul was best known for his role as detective Kenneth "Hutch" Hutchinson in Starsky & Hutch, which ran from 1975 to 1979.

Starsky & Hutch wasn't Soul's only well-known appearance, as he also appeared in Magnum Force with Clint Eastwood in 1973.

Soul is survived by his wife, whom he married in 2010, and their six children.
