Documentary revisits moment NBA's Anthony Edwards told Obama to 'stand down'
It takes confidence to succeed at the highest level of sports, and NBA star Anthony Edwards is showing that he has plenty of it.
He has to, given that he is talking to former President Barack Obama in a rather blunt way.
A new Netflix docuseries entitled Court of Gold focuses on America's gold medal win in basketball at the 2024 Olympics, and one of the clips is going viral.
The video shows Obama interacting with the 2024 squad. In the clip, Obama is talking to Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers about Anthony Edwards.
"What do you think of this young guy?" Obama asked Embiid, a former NBA MVP. "'He can hoop a little bit, huh?"
Edwards, who was selected for the team after a sensational playoff run with the Minnesota Timberwolves, heard the conversation and chimed in:
"Man, y'all better stand down. I'm the truth," he said.
"You said you're the truth, yeah?" Obama replied.
"These boys know," Edwards replied.
Obama had to find out for himself and checked with all-time greats LeBron James and Kevin Durant to see for sure if Edwards is in fact "the truth."
"I got nothing wrong with that," Durant replied.
"This man is the truth," LeBron James told Obama.
