Prince Philip's reaction to Harry, Markle's 'Megxit' departure revealed
When Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced their decision to step down as working royals, the world was stunned.
For Prince Philip, who was Harry's grandfather, the decision was both "perplexing and infuriating," according to startsat60.com.
Harry and Meghan's departure from the Royal Family in 2020, which is sometimes referred to as "Megxit," reportedly left Prince Philip feeling "deeply hurt."
"What the hell are they playing at?" Prince Philip reportedly asked.
"He is deeply hurt. But he was spitting blood when aides informed him what had happened. Philip has accused Harry and Meghan of lacking respect and he is weary of their behavior," a royal insider said.
The late Prince Philip was apparently suspicious of Meghan Markle from the start, giving her the nickname "DoW" early into her relationship with Prince Harry.
"DoW" stood for the Duchess of Windsor. Philip was referring to American Wallis Simpson, who "played a pivotal role in British history when she prompted King Edward VIII to abdicate the throne in pursuit of their love."
Ingrid Seward, a noted commentator on royal topics, said that Prince Philip was suspicious of Markle from the start.
"One of the few wary of succumbing to her charm offensive, however, was Prince Philip," Seward wrote. "While the Queen continued to champion Harry’s new love, he warned his wife to be cautious. It was uncanny, he told her, how much Meghan reminded him of the Duchess of Windsor."
