California joins red states in raising flags for Trump's inauguration
California Gov. Gavin Newsom is surprising some people with the decision to raise American flags at his state's capitol for a limited time during Donald Trump's inauguration.
This is a win for Trump, who wants flags to be flying high during his big moment.
The flags have been at half-staff across America to honor the life of former President Jimmy Carter, who passed away on Dec. 29.
There are a number of Republican governors who have made similar announcements for Inauguration Day.
They include Alabama’s Kay Ivey, Florida’s Ron DeSantis, Idaho’s Brad Little, Iowa’s Kim Reynolds, Nebraska’s Jim Pillen, North Dakota’s Kelly Armstrong, Tennessee’s Bill Lee, and Texas’s Greg Abbott have all made the decision to break from tradition and raise their American flags within 30 days of a former president's death.
Joe Biden previously ordered flags across America be flown at half-staff until nearly the end of January, "in accordance with an Eisenhower-era proclamation setting the length of the honor."
Trump made headlines when he seemingly raised flags around Mar-a-Lago before the end of the mourning period.
Do you think flags should be flying high to honor President Trump, or should they stay at half-staff to honor Carter?
