Walz condones Democrat walkout to deny Republicans majority in MN statehouse'

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) ran on a platform pledging to "defend Democracy," but he appears to be perfectly fine with denying Republicans in the state House a legitimate majority for a few weeks until a special election is held to fill a vacancy there.

Right now, the count is 67-66 because Curtis Johnson (D) stepped down after a judge ruled he didn't establish residency in his district.

But Democrats are boycotting the session and held a secret swearing in so that Republicans could not reach a quorum.

This is being done to deny them a chance to get anything done while they have the majority. A special election will be held on January 28 and the seat will likely remain Democrat, making the count 67-67.

U.S. Rep. Tom Emmer (R-MN) slammed Democrats on Monday, saying, "ANY state legislator who fails to show up for work has no business collecting a taxpayer-funded check. If you can’t do the job, you don’t deserve the seat."

But Democrats know that any outrage directed toward them by their own party is likely to be minor if they can prevent Republicans from getting anything done for the next two weeks, so that's exactly what they plan to do.
