Joe Biden's difficult 2024 in review
2024 was NOT a good year for Joe Biden, as Annabella Rosciglione writes in the Washington Examiner.
Donald Trump defeated Joe Biden so badly in the presidential debate that his own party forced him to step down and replaced him with Kamala Harris. Now, Biden is mumbling and stumbling through his last few days in office.
Along the way, Biden has gone from the leader of the Democrats to one of the more disliked people on the left, even by his own party.
Let's have a look at some of Biden's biggest allies-turned-enemies:
Former Speaker Nancy Pelosi. In May 2024, Biden awarded Nancy Pelosi the Presidential Medal of Freedom, asserting her to be the "greatest speaker of the House of Representatives in history." Fast-forward to December, and their relationship has taken a sharp turn.
Pelosi was reportedly one of the main people who forced Biden out of the race, and Pelosi confirmed in August that she had not spoken with the president since his exit.
Democrats in Congress. Before Biden dropped out of the race, a whopping 45 Democrats in Congress, plus Independent Joe Manchin, had all demanded Joe Biden drop out of the race. Not exactly the support Biden was hoping for from his own party.
Kamala Harris' staffers. There's apparently quite the schism growing between Biden and Kamala Harris' team, who blame Joe for the VP's election loss. "We ran the best campaign we could, considering Joe Biden was president," one aide said. "Joe Biden is the singular reason Kamala Harris and Democrats lost tonight."
Another Harris staffer added, "The 107-day Harris campaign was nearly flawless. The Biden campaign that preceded it was the opposite."
Joe Biden is leaving 2024 with far fewer friends than he entered it with. Here's hoping your year went a little better!
