Bernie Moreno takes lead over Sen. Sherrod Brown in latest OH polling
Just as the presidential election will have vast and far-reaching consequences for the entire nation, the party that holds majority control in both chambers of Congress will also shape the nation for at least the next several years.
Democrats currently hold a razor-thin majority in the U.S. Senate, and they're doing everything they can to keep it that way.
However, the balance of power could ultimately shift if key Democratic senators lose their seat in November, and according to Newsweek, that's playing out in the state of Ohio right now.
The outlet reported that a new poll released over the weekend showed Senator Sherrod Brown (D) now trailing his Republican challenger, Bernie Moreno.
While polls tend to shift one way or another in close races, it's the closest Brown has come to potentially losing his critical Senate seat since he was first elected in 2007.
Senate Democrats are already eyeing up the reality of losing West Virginia in November "with Senator Joe Manchin retiring and popular Republican Gov. Jim Justice angling to replace him."

The 51-49 Democrat majority in the upper chamber is fragile, and if Republicans were to win the White House with former President Donald Trump, hold the House of Representatives, and gain majority control of the Senate, Democrats would be cooked for some time to come.
What the current reality means is that Democrats would need to hold every possible seat, including Brown's, as it stands, or somehow flip a red state seat, which doesn't seem likely at this point in time, short of an unexpected and unprecedented twist.
Newsweek noted:
The survey results show Moreno is leading with rural and suburban voters, as well as among men and white voters. Brown leads among urban voters, as well as among women and low-income voters. The poll included 400 likely Ohio voters and had a margin of error of 4.9 percent, meaning Moreno's narrow lead is well within the survey's margin of error.
Users across social media reacted to the latest survey showing Moreno in the lead.
"Thank God. Sherod Brown has destroyed Ohio's economy. Him and his buddy Bill Clinton sent all the auto manufacturing to Mexico with NAFTA and many Ohio communities have never recovered," one X user wrote.
Another X user wrote, "The Democrats and media dismissing Springfield Ohio while Republicans visiting them may be the biggest reason why Rs will win this seat."
Only time will tell if the polls hold true. Hopefully, they do.
