Son of 2nd Trump assassination attempt suspect says dad hated former president
The son of Ryan Wesley Routh, the man suspected of attempting to assassinate Donald Trump near his Florida golf club on Sunday, said that his father hates the former president but doubted that he would act on that sentiment.
Oran Routh initially said it was "reasonable" to hate Trump, but he didn't believe his dad owned a gun or was the person who shot at him through some trees about 400-500 yards away from where he was golfing.
"I don't like Trump either," he said, but added, 'That's crazy. I know my dad and love my dad, but that's nothing like him."
Oran Routh said that he and his father were estranged but declined to explain why.
He then ended the call, saying he needed to get more information about what had happened.
In a later text, he seemed to almost say that his father was guilty of the attempt, and denigrated American politics as a "broken and disassociated" process.
