Trump's Jan. 6th trial won't happen before November election

The indictment of former President Donald Trump for allegedly trying to overturn the 2020 election has resumed following the Supreme Court's presidential immunity decision but the news is all bad for Democrats.

Judge Tanya Chutkan has granted a request for a delay from Special Counsel Jack Smith which will set the trial's timeline back months and has sealed any chance of the trial happening before November's election. That's assuming the trial goes forward in the event of Trump winning November's election.

At this point, it looks like the pre-trial proceedings won't begin until mid-September at the earliest and that means that it is entirely possible that this trial could extend into 2025.

Now this is terrible news for Democrats as they can no longer use this indictment against Trump. What's worse for Democrats is Trump will likely just outright dismantle Smith's team should he win the election in November.

Trump and his allies have made it clear that they will purge the Justice Department of leftist ideologues who have made it their life's work to take him down.

Smith likely understands all of this and is likely looking for an off-ramp from this disaster which would explain why he asked for a delay in the case proceeding. The dream is dead for Smith and his team and the goal is to survive the fallout with their careers intact.
